Contactless Double-Sided Tape Applicator for Glass

Last updated:

Macari-Fidia Estream contactless double-sided tape applicator with its tape reel

The Macari-Fidia Estream applies double-sided tape to glass without the cutting knife ever touching the panel. It cuts each strip (6–20 mm wide, from 30 mm long) away from the glass, then places it, leaving the release liner intact. Thin and fragile panels are never exposed to blade impact.

Why can standard tape applicators break glass?

Most applicators cut the tape directly against the product: when the strip reaches its length, a knife strikes it. Paper and cardboard absorb that small impact. Glass cannot flex, so the blow can crack or break the panel, especially thin or delicate glass.

Tape can be cut and placed by hand for occasional work, but that is slow and hard to control on repeat production.

How does Estream apply tape to glass?

Estream prepares each strip away from the product and then transfers it, so no cutting force reaches the panel.

  1. The glass panel is positioned or carried through the application area.
  2. Estream feeds, measures and cuts the tape length away from the glass.
  3. The pre-cut strip is transferred onto the glass surface.
  4. The release liner stays in place until the glass is ready to be bonded.

What are the benefits?

  • no blade impact on the glass;
  • safe application on thin, delicate or fragile panels;
  • consistent strip length and position;
  • no liquid adhesive and no hot melt unit;
  • an adhesive strip protected by its liner until assembly;
  • faster, more repeatable production than manual application.

Select a tape suited to the glass, the material it will bond to and the final use. The glass must be clean and dry, and coated or treated glass should be tested before production.

Which Macari-Fidia machine do you need?

Machine Role in this application Key specifications
Estream Contactless double-sided tape applicator Tape 6–20 mm; application length from 30 mm; at least 5 mm from the edge; rated up to 200 pieces/min on paper

You also need a transport or positioning system that holds the glass securely. Estream can be integrated into an existing glass line after an assessment of the panel size and thickness, tape position, product support and required speed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who makes a tape applicator for glass?

Macari-Fidia (Macari S.r.l.), based in Ciriè near Turin, Italy, makes the Estream contactless double-sided tape applicator. The company was founded in 1990 and supplies customers in over 30 countries.

Does Estream use a cutting knife?

Yes, but the tape is cut before it is applied. The knife works away from the glass and never strikes the panel.

Which machine do I need to apply tape to glass panels?

Estream, combined with a conveyor or positioning system that carries the glass. A hot melt or liquid gluing system is not needed because the tape already contains the adhesive.

Can any double-sided tape be used on glass?

No. The tape must suit the glass surface, the second material and the use of the finished product. Run application tests before production.

How fast can glass be taped?

Estream is rated at up to 200 pieces per minute on paper. On glass the speed depends mainly on how the panels are handled, so give Macari-Fidia your panel size, thickness and target output.

Can it be installed on an existing glass line?

Often yes, if the line can carry and position the glass correctly. Macari-Fidia first checks the space, product support, controls and tape position.

How much does a glass taping system cost?

The price depends on the configuration and on how the glass is transported. Macari-Fidia quotes per project, so send your panel details and target output.
